First time user of MIS ink cartridge needs help

First time user of MIS ink cartridge needs help

2002-02-13 by interrante

Hi,

I am trying to use the MIS variable tone inks in the prefilled
cartridges on an epson 1280, photoshop6, windows2000.

I have used the purge jpgs and printed a set of pages and the colors
other than black look perfect.

With regard to black -- I just printed 3 pages using the black purge
jpg file. They look identical, solid black for 1/4 inch followed by
the rest of the page looking like dark grey with a set of black
strips (about 80 of them). I just printed the 21step greyscale strip
image from the site and got that banding and grey at 100%, and the
banding persists till 85%.

Suggestions would be appreciated, I dont know what to do next.

Thanks,
Mark

Mark,

Save yourself the aggrevation and return the cartridge. I try many
new materials. I have a habit of digital compulsions! But let me
advise you this. Never buy one set when you try a new product. Always
buy the same amount of supplies that you would keep on hand in your
usual event of working. You would not have only one black cartridge
and then order a new one when you run out! Of course not. You would
probably keep an extra or perhaps you will have 2 or 3 on a shelf.

So you should try new materials this way. You have a defective black
cartridge. This is obvious. If you bought 2 or 3 you would be
returning this one. Installing a second and not struggling and
attempting to make something work. Your time is more valuable than
this. Do you see?

Hi, I wasn't sure that it was defective, I thought that I might not
have done something properly. Is the defect rate very high for this
product? I guess i should have bought a couple but this was a small
purchase just to start and see. Mark

What are the purge jpgs and where do you get them?

Thanks.

I've been using the MIS VM inks in prefilled chipped carts and one of two
black carts I received recently was defective. The defective cart wasn't
recognized by the printer (Epson 1270), so I assume the chip was bad. MIS
sent me a replacement cart.

Mark ("interrante") clued me in to the purge files being an MIS
download you can get to from their quadtones page. And I printed the
five copies recommended against the 98%-removal standard without
seeing a difference between the first print and the fifth. But I
don't trust my eyes.
