I was given permission from Antonis back in July. Since you have mentioned this I reviewed my past correspondence with him and although I was given permission to make a similar post back then, it is not clear if that can be extended to this post. Antonis, if I have over stepped my bounds with your previous email, my apologies. I will understand if you remove this.

Sincerely,
Mark

Mark,

The group rules do allow participating members to promote their products so long as it is something that would be of interest to the group in general.

Mark Rogers has been a member of the group for about 5 1/2 years and has contributed over that time. So his "ad" would fall within the guidelines. As Mark Rogers said in his response to you, he asked permission previous to post a similar announcement earlier which was granted.

So the fault lies with Antonis and myself. Overall we do our best to keep the group spam free. We screen all initial posts by new members and you have no idea how many offers to improve your love life, financial situation, etc. you have missed.

All that aside, if there is a general consensus that Mark Roger's post was out of line, let us know and we will reconsider the policy.

Thanks,
Martin Wesley

I appreciate this kind of ads.

I also appreciate that Mark did ask for permission before doing it and kept it short.

Given that this group is alive, I think that one message like this every once in a while is welcome.

I, for one, did not think his ad was out of line. Jim

It is just that other e-groups (concerning printing) ban this so it
does not become like a half hour of network TV, 15 minutes of
commercials. I do agree that this is helpful to the group but then
should I post info about my business trying to drum up business from
the members too? And the next person too, and so on. It seems like it
can go wild quickly.

Allowing us to sign our posts with a link to our business leaves the
option for members to learn about what we do and our level of
knowledge, it was never intended to solicit business. Isn't that enough?

Perhaps a section in the files area can be set up to have members who
wish to solicit, put info about them and offers would be valuable.
Not sure if that can be done.

Bottom line is I just feel this is a place to exchange knowledge, not
make a sales pitch. JMO

. . .

I personally think it's great that people like Mark Rogers of Frame
Destination are part of this group, and occasionally put in an
explicit "plug" for their products or services. Mark and other
vendors also bring a wealth of practical experience.

I've been on lists filled with spam and off topic posts, so I
appreciate the effort to keep this list "pure". But leaving out
vendors -- even the friendliest vendors -- does not help towards that
end. Also, I'd note that some of us (not me) offer fine print
services, so there are more "vendors" here than may at first be apparent.

My 2c.
