printing 8-bit? 16-bit?

printing 8-bit? 16-bit?

2009-04-22 by Jacob

I'm PC user printing on Epson 7880 from Photoshop.

Lately watching training video I've discovered that Lightroom allows 16-bit printing under Mac OS X 10.5

I've made some research trying to figure out if windows Vista 64 can print in 16-bit. I've found a document that says yes, it can, here is the link:
http://blogs.msdn.com/adrianford/archive/2008/10/22/16-bits-and-more-printing-on-windows.aspx

But then I've called Epson tech support and the guy told me that Windows driver is 8-bit, there is no plans for 16-bit driver for Windows 7 because it doesn't support 16-bit printing.

So now I'm thinking to replace my PC laptop with Macbook. I still want to work mainly on PC in 16-bit, but when image is ready copy it to Macbook and send it to the printer through Lightroom in 16-bit.

What do you think? Does it make sense?

Thank you,

Jason,
this works fine. I do it all the time. I use vista 64 bit. Print from Lightroom for color & QTR for B&W. both in 16-bit. As I understand it the driver coverts on the fly to 8-bit. Everything prints with no problems.
