z3200 for B/W

z3200 for B/W

2009-04-20 by Keith Cooper

Hi

I just finished writing up a review of the z3200ps after HP kindly me one for testing.

http://www.northlight-images.co.uk/reviews/printer/hp_z3200ps.html

Although it worked well with many media, I found the B/W output with some papers showed a noticeable non-linearity.

I was wondering if anyone had approached this using the built in (or APS) profiling?

I 'fixed' it quite easily with a QTR profile (see the B/W section of the review) but given all the fancy bits the Z3200 packs, I wondered if its B/W print mode could be fine tuned?

bye for now

Keith,

There is an LL discussion a little while back where I describe how I
have done it on the Z3100, have to test that on the Z3200 as well but
right now two computer systems have a raid problem. Can not understand
why it would be different on the Z3200. The QTR profile curve was 99%
straight.

Thanks Ernst - I can see that with any toning the effect would likely be even worse.

If I had a printer here to use, I'd certainly want to experiment quite a bit to find more optimal B/W solutions.

it's not so bad with some of the HP supplied 'presets' but adding extra papers needs a bit of work, although I didn't get to try the APS (not sure if this would be of any relevance for B/W)
