Funnel Fill Cartridges for Epson pro printers

Funnel Fill Cartridges for Epson pro printers

2009-09-18 by brouwerkent

Hi All

I am seriously contemplating buying a 4880 since there are some great rebates going right now. (850 off) I am planning to use my own (MIS or HP Paul Roark type) inks, but have some concerns about the third party carts for these machines. Here are my questions.

1. Are these reliable? What are the pitfalls? Known problems???

2. Are there issues with pulling the cart and resetting the chip? How many cycles of refilling can I expect to get from these carts.

Recommendations for cartridge vendor would also be much appreciated. I am inclined to buy from inkjetcarts.us...they seem competitive and are very responsive. But if there is a better deal...I would like to hear it.

Thanks

Phil

You might want to check Jon Cone's site: InkJet Mall

No experience, but Jon Cone's Piezography B&W inkset is very highly regarded(as is Mr. Roark's) and in addition to B&W he also handles color inks for the 4880:

My experience with the funnel fill carts on a 7600 is not very positive: some could not be detected by the sensor, others had a tendency to let air in the line etc. I ended up replacing them with the MIS large format refillable carts: cheaper and more reliable, they seem to work like a charm. You could probably just use the original epson carts. Rinse them and refill.

There is a procedure for turning off the chip readers on the 76-9600s.

They always show full. You can see the ink levels in the carts. See the Epson Large Format Group. That is what people are doing.

Is there a similar procedure for the 9800? Thanks.

No. Chip sensors CAN NOT be turned off, it is flashed into the
motherboard.

What are you talking about Mark. I just did it recently on the 9600 when one of the Piezo cart chips was misaligned. The new printers you can't. He was talking about a 7600, right?

Here is the procedure.
