See Tom Hubbard's recent two-part online articles (mine included) about this subject on his new site: http://www.pmpnonline.com/apps/blog/show/1649246-signing-photographic-prints and http://www.pmpnonline.com/apps/blog/show/1774073-what-ink-pen-is-best-for-si gning-photographic-prints- Signing on back is a traditional technique. See the suggestion about Sakura Pigma pens. And, man, I haven't used a Rapidograph in ages! But good idea. Harald Johnson [Non-text portions of this message have been removed]

Thanks for these two links. Both are very informative. Seems to be lots going on in Portland relating to Photo. My wife thinks we should go visit and check the place out. Does anyone have any recommendations on photo galleries to visit in Portland? Thanks, Gary Wagner garywagner.com

The thin ones 0.13 are excellent for retouch on any paper. Stipple technique. I use old R\ufffdtring and new Staedler Marsmatic 700 pens. Fill them with the lightest grey ink etc for B&W. For color prints good watercolor pencils are easier though. I use the Caran d'Ache brand. It would have been nice if they had pen inks 30 years ago that functioned as good as inkjet inks do today :-) -- Met vriendelijke groeten, Ernst Dinkla Gallery Canvas Wrap Actions | Dinkla Grafische Techniek | | www.pigment-print.com | | ( unvollendet ) |

Since no one else has mentioned it, I have been using the Stabilo All pencil to sign prints that don't take regular pencil well, including glossy FB silver papers and most inkjet papers, for many years. I've yet to find a paper it doesn't work on - very smooth too. Sakura Pigma Micron pens come in various rapidograph-thin line widths...I use .05 most of the time. .01 may be OK depending on your taste, .001 is too thin. Totally reliable on highest gloss and "air-dried" baryta (such as Ilford Gold Fiber Silk)....perfect for prints that won't accept pencil... allegedly "archival" ...They're relatively inexpensive throw-aways... --- In DigitalBlackandWhiteThePrint@yahoogroups.com, Ernst Dinkla <edinkla@...> wrote:
