I'm a life-long BW wet darkroom photographer just starting to print digitally. What are you recommendations for books to read? I'll still be using traditional equipment for shooting & developing my negs. Thanks.

[snip] Two I'd recommend you at least look at on Amazon, Lew, are: Bill Kennedy's "The Photographer's Guide to the Digital Darkroom", and Amadou Diallo's "Mastering Digital Black and White". Good luck, Lew, and welcome to the list. -- Sam

Mastering Digital Black and White comes to mind, but you would probably need to search eBay or Amazon for a second hand copy, as books don't stay in print very long these days... C. D. Tobie Global Product Technology Mngr. Digital Imaging & Home Theater Datacolor.com CDTobie@...

Hi Lew, I'm a bit new to this particular group myself. But your question is really a huge conversation that I doubt would really be covered properly in "a" book.. I think your in the right place however.. and probably another group or two on yahoo is appropriate also.. Anyway, the areas you'll be exploring are image capture (scanning) , getting the image worked up to print followed by the print process. So maybe to get the ball rolling constructively maybe share what you have going so far in these area's .. The other groups that may interest you are Epson wide format and Piezography.. As far as books go I think Amadou Diallo's "Mastering Digital Black and White". is great.. He also shows up on the groups occasionally.. The shift your making is a big one but a good one. Hopefully you enjoy it. jimbo

I have found George DeWolfe's "Digital Masters B&W Printing" to be the best book I have read and use. It is a complete workflow from start to finish. Vinny www.wulfsden.com --- In DigitalBlackandWhiteThePrint@yahoogroups.com, "mrjimbo" <mrjimbo@...> wrote:

I once received a phone call from George DeWolfe, to discuss making some specific black and white functions possible from our printer profiling tools, only to find he was calling from Richard Wolfson's studio, which I caught onto when I recognized some of the techniques Richard and I had developed together in what George was describing... so that was definitely a call from the Wolf's Den.
