New Discovery

2010-03-03 by R Craig Blackman

Hello everyone:
I have indicated before that I am relatively new to this B&W printing, but I DO have a passion to become exceptionally good. It takes work, patience, and a lot of money. But it's worth to me.

Let me share an experience I had today. I order Paul Roark's Sample Pack of paper: six in all...three gloss papers and 3 matte. Each had two sheets. Best buy I have ever made for paper.

My exercise tonight was to print on each the same BW picture, processed in PSCS4. It had lots of details, shadows, and contrast. It was a picture of old antique gas pumps on the road between Angel Fire,NM and Sante Fa. I printed one sheet through PS and one through QTR. "What a difference does day make...". I really got my WOW and may even be satisfied...for now. I am sure there is no need to tell the pro's that I believe I prefer the QTR.

The prints are drying.Tomorrow I will compare all the prints and give you my findings...for those of you that are interested. I am sure the professionals are going "Ho hum".

Hello Craig,

Welcome to this madness. I noticed that you are in Memphis. So am I. Let me know if you need any help. I have been puttering with this for a few years now.

That is a sample pack MIS sells, not me. I'm not even sure what they have in it now. Do you have the URL for where that sample pack is described on the MIS web page?

Paul, I apologize...I should have written that I bought the sample from MIS Inks, not you. It just happens that these were recommendations that you have made for select papers, which I am sure is not all inclusive.

For the benefit of others, the URL is:
www.inksupply.com/paper.cfm#sample 3
