Doepfer

hi andreas,

like david, i also own some analogue systems modules along w 
some blacet but cannot comment on the AS midi/cv module.   i'm 
guessing it would work at least as well as the A190.  as for the 
others in general, from my experience they function very well 
together w the A100 and were to some extent built w doepfer 
users in mind.  the AS modules sound nice but are the only ones 
giving me jack problems(!!).  though easy to fix, still can be 
inconvenient.  on the subject of patch cables, AS makes several 
colors of varied lengths, are of  good quality, and are cheaper 
than doepfer supplied cables.  unless you build your own, i think 
these are the best option.

regarding blacet, these modules are of higher build quality, and 
for not much more do-re-mi.  i would not recommend altering the 
faceplate to fit into a doepfer case, not only are the power 
requirements different (15v), most of the boards are too deep 
anyway.  the one exception is the dark star which has a shallow 
board and will run on the doepfer power bus with the supplied 
adaptor (but they don't make this module anymore).  blacet  can 
supply a high quality powered case kit for $111, i highly 
recommend this option if you decide to try some of thier 
modules.  

i hope i'm not drifting too far from the subject of the A100, but 
obviously mixing manufacturers will certainly expand the range of 
sounds coming from your A100 (i still consider my rig to be an 
A100 at heart).  and for me, another result is this sort-of 
openness is that it has incidentally increased my appreciation 
for doepfer.
