max freq. of a vactrol

max freq. of a vactrol

I wonder what the max. frequency for a vactrol is, to which it can respond.
Is it able to follow audible frequencies ? I ask this because I heard that
a vactrol acts a bit slow and thus musical.
thanks, guido.

Guido,

we have a special information page about vactrols:
http://www.doepfer.de/a100_man/Vactrol.htm

In general vatrols are very slow (compared to other elements like
transistors, transistors or diodes) but there are minor differences due to
the basic material used in the photo-sensitive layer of the light-depending
resistor in the LED/LDR combination. The main advantage of vactrols is their
linear behaviour (like a resistor, no distortion).

Best wishes
