voltage controllable hardware effects?

voltage controllable hardware effects?

2006-11-15 by redsawcloud

I'm looking for effects units to voltage control with my Doepfer. Effects units that have a
voltage control input? (something like the ADA Flanger that has a Voltage Control input
jack) I like the idea of different kinds of equipment breathing voltages into one another.
I'm having a difficult time finding units on the web.

I'm curious how many people do this and what units are out there that allow it?

Thanks for your help,

I'm not sure what units are out there that have
this type of control imput. That's partly what got
me into the Doepfer A-100 system. I use my rack
mainly as a signal processor. So I can make what ever
crazy ass flanger I want with an A-188-1 1024
some LFO's and what ever else I feel like using.

Without modding, I know the Big Briar MoogerFooger
pedals and the Frostwave effects both have CV ins.
You'll need 1/8" to 1/4" adapters.

Great question. I also think CV is a HUGE plus when shopping for
effects. Off the top of my head I can tell you that my MoogerFooger Delay
has CV inputs. I have a Korg Stage Echo 500 that has CV ins for various
functions. Also, most of the old Eventide line has CV control, like their
first Harmonizer. I own the Eventide Instant Flanger and you can add a CV In
to that. Marshall Time Modulator also has a CV Input. Basically almost any
effect made before 1983 has some sort of CV control.

    regards,
    John

I know the Hiwatt Tape Echo has an expression pedal input to control the
speed of the tape. I'm fairly certain that you can control it with CV.

If the effects unit in question has no CV input the A-101-9 universal
vactrol module may solve the problem. It cannot be used in all cases. But if
there is a potentiometer in the effect unit that is used to control the
parameter in question it will work.

Hi

Paul already listed a lot.

I may add:
Vestakaza Dig420 (V/Octave playable Digital delay)
MXR Pitchtransposer (only V/Hz :-( )

Also nearly every analoge guitar stomp-box, which provides a Modulation
(Phasers/Flangers...) can be modded simply, because the Mod depth
potentiometer usally is the right point to insert an external CV.

i was thinking about that...i have an old Ross analog delay pedal (no relation) that has 3 chips in it marked "1024", my guess is they are daisey-chained, it has a max time of 500ms i believe, dry and wet out, and i like the sound quite a bit....i'd like to add VC to it, do you think it possible? perhaps i could wire the A109 to a jack, add a jack to the Ross AD, and bypass the scratchy delay knob? it would be very cool...i have a Doepfer 2048 dealy also, btw...i figure i could use the Ross for longer dub delays, the Doepfer for slapback, ringing dealys, mod feedback madness....

on the VC hardware tip: i have a Delatap Lab Effectron and a LoftSeries 450 delay...the Loft has a range of .5-20 ms and4-160 ms (flange or delay setting respectively, not even sure if it's digi or analog haha), the Effectron has 6 range settings from 1-1024 ms, it's definately digi...the only thing that bugs be about it is if you grab a sample (infinite repeat), it doesn't seem to transpose at 1v/oct as my Roland MPU 101 midi>cv box provides (and all my other analog gear uses)...andbody know what's with this? i have some thougts, but anyone have a sure-fire recipe for scaling cv at 1v/oct to "other"? i'm think a combo a a bias voltage and the cv in question thru a cv mixer or something?

  thanks,

I think this will work. But I'd connect the A-101-9 vactrol output in
parallel to the existing potentiometer. With this wiring you can use the
pedal as before. If you connect the additional socket of the pedal to the
A-101-9 you have to turn the knob on the pedal fully CCW or CM (maximim
delay time) and the A-101-9 has now the control. The knob can also be used
to limit the A-101-9 control to a desired delay time value.
