The Ignorant call them synthesizers, but in fact these are only sample players. I´m talking about stuff like Emu Proteus etc., where all the samples come out of a ROM. That´s why tey´re called ROMplers ;-)

I have a theory that the popularity of the AS and A100 "effects" 
modules is due to the influence of sample players (I like "Romplers!) 
such as the Proteus. 

An entire generation has been taught that "synthesis" consists of 
adjusting effects parameters :(

Personally, I use outboard gear for things like spring reverb and 
phasing. I guess I'm a traditionalist.

Sad but true... too many people raised up with LCDs and parameters. 
But there´s also something funny about folks not familiar with modulars: When looking at my Doepfer a guy asked me if it was a mixer! And somebody else really wanted to know if it had a digital output!!!!! I had to burst into laughter...
