OT: micro mixers?

2008-10-19 by Richard Scott

I am always running out of audio mixers on my modular. I want to add a couple of "outboard" ones for special occassions but I don't need the eq/preamps etc

there is an old 4 to 1 design used used by many companies, like this http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/4-Channel-Micro-mixer_W0QQitemZ280275065691QQcmdZViewItem?hash=item280275065691&_trkparms=72%3A1301%7C39%3A1%7C66%3A2%7C65%3A12%7C240%3A1318&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14

but it distorts very easily.

behringer have this: http://www.behringer.com/MX400/index.cfm?lang=eng which looks like it could be better (better opamps? no ouput mix stage might help?)

anyone tried these, or found better solutions? - I want to buy something I am not a builder!

This might be because these inexpensive mixers typically run off lower supply voltages (9volts for example) then the modular systems. This means you will not have much head room, thus the distortions.

Is it the case that you have run out of space in your modular case? Why not another of the Doepfer 4 to 1 mixer?
