Experience using MCV4 with A100?

Experience using MCV4 with A100?

2002-04-27 by buechlerjoe

I'd like to have an extra Midi channel for occasional duophonic
operation of my A100. I can drive the A100 from two different
Regelwerk tracks using the CV outputs, but I'd like to be able to run
it that way from a Midi sequencer also.

I don't need all of the channels and outputs of the MCV24, and don't
want to pay the price. Has anyone used the MCV4 for this purpose? Are
there any problems with this arrangement? Are there other solutions
that I should also be considering?

Thanks

Joe

I have tried to stay clear of the a190 for long and now I realize I have
been wrong=)

I´m using the MCV4 with my A-100. It works Ok but if you use the
pitch-bend you´ll hear small "steps" and not a gliding tone
(quanticed). I use the mod-wheel patched through the slew limiter and
get the bending there.

Thanks for the information, keld. Instead of using the mod wheel, is
it possible to set the MCV4's bend range to zero, and pick up the
pitch bender CV from one of the assignable jacks instead?

It's kind of a bummer anyway, because my slew limiter tends to get
used up already, smoothing out the 8-bit zippering from the A190/191.

Perhaps I'm being foolish. If I added up all of the money that I'd
end up having invested in the A190, A191, and MCV4, maybe the MCV24
isn't looking so expensive. I'd get my slew limiter back. I could
also use the MCV24's software envelopes instead of limping along with
only one ADSR for the second voice. Replacing the A190/191 would also
"buy back" 22U of A100 frame space, which I could use for other
things, like maybe to add another VCO, mixer, and VCA.

I'll have to think about this some more. Comments are welcome.

If you wanna trade a 190 for a 110 just tell me so. I wanna go that way =)

I'll let you know what I decide to do. Didn't you just install an A190
and 5V adapter, though?

Sure did and it works great now, but I don't like the sound of the a110 so I
will go for just a111 in the future or perhaps just analog systems vco's.
Anyway I have four vco's now and one a190 ... not balanced
