Problem with A-190-4

Problem with A-190-4

2018-08-06 by Colum Brady

Hi All,

I am having a problem with my A-190-4 today and I'm hoping someone may be able to assist. My A-190 does not appear to be processing CV or Gate signal. I have tried sending signal from a midi keyboard and from a korg SQ-1 sequencer but no CV or gate signal is produced. I do get a clock signal when the sequencer is attached. I have tried to different midi cables also just to rule out a bad cable issue.

I can scroll through the menu on the A-190 so the module does not appear to be frozen.

All connections are made using the midi in port, not USB.

Would anyone have advice on how to troubleshoot this problem?

Thanks,
Colum

Re-initialize the module and all is good again.

Cheers,

Hello,

if the clock is working the midi connection is working in principle. Please
check if the midi channel and note range of the transmitter corresponds to
the settings of the A-190-4. And make sure that the required note messages
are really sent by the midi transmitter.

Best wishes

The interplay among the korg SQ-1, the A-190-4 and eventually a PC is not clear to me
Can the korg SQ-1 sequencer actually send MIDI via USB to the PC and so to the A-190-4?
Maybe you can forward precisions of your hw configuration

I had a similar problem long ago interfacing OSX 10.6.8 with the A-190-4, so the master keyboard actually sent messages but the A-190-4 wasn’t detected by the MIDI Audio setup sometimes (have to keep the A-190-4 powered on before powering on the Mac). But if your DAW sends clock to A-190-4 (but not MIDI notes!?) then it’s not the case..

It depends upon your PC hard/software if the incoming note on/off data from
the SQ-1 are routed to the Midi output which is connected to the A-190-4.

You may use also the midi output of the SQ-1 (with the special midi adapter
that comes with the SQ-1) to find out if the midi communication between SQ-1
and A-190-4 is working in principle. Pay attention that the midi channels of
both devices are the same !

Hi All,

Thanks for your replies. To confirm for some replies, the SQ-1 was connected to the A-190 via the midi in connection using the SQ-1 midi adapter. There is no PC/DAW in the current setup and no communication over usb.

I was able to get all working again by re-initializing the module through the A-190 menu.

Thanks again for your replies.
