SH101-Like Sequencer Module

SH101-Like Sequencer Module

2003-04-19 by John

I don't know if this was mentioned in the past, but after
experimenting a bit today on the A100 with the SH-101 sequencer, I
though that a useful alternate sequencer Doepfer could offer in the
future would be one that could capture incoming voltages, store them
into an 8 or 16 slot array (as well as a direct thru so one could hear
what was being programmed) and provide the ability to output the
captured voltages at a clock controlled speed either sequentially
forward, reverse, pendulum or random. A separate (or integrated)
module could handle gates, holds and rests. In essense, similar to
simplistic sequencer on the SH-101. I find this a great way to create
short sequences quickly without firing up Logic or dialing in steps on
a step sequencer.

Just a thought.

Kindest regards,
John

Hi John, i have been using an Sh101 to control my A100. It is a great
way to create short phrases quickly. The big bonus to using the sh101
is the fact that you can do tied wiythout pulling your hair out.

I guess most people use midi2cv converters with their A100's.If
people had access to an sh101 style sequencer , they would see the
benefits.

In the TKB poll which I did a few months ago, I had proposed the idea
that an sh101 sequencer be made as a module and have a buss access to
the TKB so you could have them sync to the TKB's clock and the TKB's
keyboard as the input source. Several people voted for this function,
I hope it becomes a reality.

Isn't this the proposed mini-Schaltwerk module? It hasn't got much
support in the poll.

I was certainly one of the ones that voted FOR the
Mini-Schaltwerk! And if I can't have a mini version, heck I'll just
have to save up for the big one! :-D

True, in one poll where the question was worded along the lines of
"which modules should be completed next?" the Mini-schaltwerk was
lower in the ranks. However, in the poll where the question was posed
separately as to whether Doepfer *should* release a SHALTWERK-LIKE
trigger sequencer, the response was +80% in favor.

Either way, having not had the pleasure to actually use a Schaltwerk,
I don't really know if it would operate similar to an SH-101 (a quick,
easy to use sequencer recorder). Certainly, if that is how the
original Schaltwerk works (only with 8 tracks instead of 1), then I
would consider it to be a great unit to own at either size! Just an
idea.

Kindest regards,
John

Hi John

I suggested a SH-101/JX-3P style sequencer to Dieter for some of the
forthcoming keyboards (standard and/or TKB); he was very interested in
borrowing my SH-101 and the JX3P for a few days.

Hi John, I would reconsider that, unless you want to live in a fixed
16th note world, that said, it allows you to see all of the tracks in
your pattern at once. I just wish you could tied notes with the
bloody thing a la tb303. Come on Chris, there is enough room to make
this feature possible.

hopefully it will have the ability to tie notes.

It would nice if the proposed module could use a midi keyboard to
record notes in real time, nothing fancy and quantized to a 16th or
32nd note.

Hi Florian,

NICE ONE, thanks a million.

hopefully it will help the schaltwerk as well, you know the tied note
thing.

RM
