New poll for Doepfer_a100

2005-09-26 by Doepfer_a100@yahoogroups.com

Enter your vote today! A new poll has been created for the
Doepfer_a100 group:

Would you PURCHASE a Tendency Mask Generator module, if
Doepfer would manufacture one? (the Tendency mask generator
at Sonology is a device which you feed an upper limit and a
lower limit as cv inputs [in a doepfer system it could be
an extension of the a172 max/min]. There's also a clock
which can either be internal or an external pulse. The
device gives out random values between the upper and lower
limits at the clock rate.)

  o yes.
  o maybe
  o no.

What is a tendency mask generator?

2005-09-27 by sfrules

Hello,

I'm a bit confused. Don't we have everything we need to do this
already? And with fewer and fewer and fewer modules:

For the higher limit: patch the Voltage you want to limit into a VC
Switch A-150 and a comparator A-167. When the voltage exceeds the
limit the comparator outputs a gate that can be used to shift the VC
Switch to an unused input. If you duplicate this but use the inverted
input of the A-167 you can derive a gate for the lower limit. Add a
linear mixer A-138a for the gates and you're good to go.
Or
Put the voltage you wish to limit into the comparators and an A-130.
Forget the switch and the mixer. Invert the gates and use them for the
control voltages of an A-130 to turn off the limited voltage when it
exceeds the desired range.
But
Couldn't you cut the number of modules nearly in half by deciding that
your lower limit will be 0 volts? You could always add an offset
later in the chain or reset your VCO or VCF starting points.
Or
You will be using a varying voltage from somewhere. Presumably the
device will have limits. Attenuate or amplify the signal until it
stays neatly in the range you wish. Offset can be added before or
after.
Or
The A-118 has a Level pot.
Or
How about the CGS Modulo Magic? http://www.cgs.synth.net/

Or,
Have I completely missed the point???

Sorry, you've completely missed the point. ;-)
The tendency mask generator creates control voltages between an upper
and lower boundary voltage on the frequency of an input clock. These
upper and lower boundary voltages change constantly.
So it's not about limiting a voltage..

I have not checked Dieter's latest addition to the patch however..
I'll get back to this after work tonight.

Greetings,

Ernst
