hello
i recently recieved my first batch of modules and i'm having a blast 
with them!  anxiously looking forward to more...
i have two questions i'd appreciate some help with if anyone can spare 
the time.  
first of all, i'm having some trouble setting the re-trigger function 
to "on" in my a190.  (it looks like someone else has been looking for 
help in this area recently as well).  i've tried sending program change 
6 from pro tools and from a master keyboard as the manual describes, 
but no luck.
my other question is about the a130.  i'm using it at the end of my 
chain of modules, sending the audio out to my studio mixer.  i've 
noticed there seems to be a lot of "hum."  even when the gain is down.  
any ideas what it could be, or are they just particularily noisy 
modules?

hello sam,
i do not remember if the a190 has this parameter, but,
if the a190 has a "retrigger time" parameter, then set
this to 001 or 002. when you also set retrigger to
"on" then the a190 will work fine. that's what i do
with my mcv24 midi-cv interface. welcome to the group!

hello,

i own a few a130's and i have no problems with hum or
something like that.

the new versions of the a130/a131 vca's have "oversensitive"
audio inputs, you cannot only attenuate signals, you can
also amplify them by turning the input attenuators to the
fully clockwise position. this also amplifies background noise.
with the input attenuator at position 6 the signal will not see
any amplification. maybe this is the source of the hum?

another question, does the hum disappear when you
remove the a130 from the patch?

No hum with my A130 or A131 going into my Akai DPS. I'm *not sure* but 
think to recall a thread on different input/output impedances causing 
noise. The thread I'm referring to was probably at Analog Heaven:

No hum with my A130 or A131 going into my Akai DPS. I'm *not sure* but 
think to recall a thread on different input/output impedances causing

isn't a-130 linear VCA? meaning it is optimized to process control voltages. 
you can run audio through it as well, but it should be louder.

i used to own A-131, but returned it due to a noise. i am still not certain 
why - was it user error (me) or else. we had a thread about that, it is in 
archives.

i rarely patch audio though VCA anyway - when i need it, i tend to use 
second filter instead.

thanks for all the advice!
i managed to get the a 190 retrigger function going.
as it turns out, its not a noisy vca 131, rather it seems to be the 
filter a106 that is the culprit.  anyone else find their's a bit 
noisy or am i just patching it up wrong?

hello sam,

the a106/1 can be noisy, it depends on the way the module
is patched and the actual knob settings.

can you give more details about your patch?
