I didn't see anyone come up with the definitive answer on this. As
far as I can remember, way back when the VFX-SD to SD-1 upgrades were
originally offered, the upgrade to an SD-1 was a motherboard swap, not
just a chip swap.

But that conversation may have been talking about VFX vs. VFX-SD, or
maybe the 21 vs. 32 voice versions of the SD-1.

There were essentially five synth versions in this family:

VFX
VFX-SD
VFX-SD-II
SD-1
SD-1 32 voice

I know the VFX and VFX-SD have different motherboards. The VFX-SD and
VFX-SD-II might share the same motherboard. The others I do not know
about for certain. The price of the upgrades that Ensoniq originally
offered would NOT lead one to believe that the SD-1 and SD-1-32
upgrades were just a chip swap.

Can anyone on this list speak definitvely on whether diferent members
of the family used the same circuit boards?

Real men don't take backups, they just "mv home.tar.gz
olsen_twins_hottub.mpg" and share it on KaZaA -- Unknown
