I have changed my battery twice, the first time I changed it to a socket so I could just swap out the battery when it went bad. Alas, I had to send it in for something, it is so long ago I don't remember what, they swapped out the mb so I did not have the socket anymore.... So I had to redo it when the battery died again. If you can find an old computer mother board with a battery socket to remove, it works great. It was not very hard to do. however it did take a little while. If i recall correctly. Back up your presets... before, although if your battery is dead you probably already lost them. Unpluged ... obviously... Keep track of your parts. >allen wrench on the hinge top, I forget the size, I have the correct one taped to the vfx. >remove keyboard. As, long as you are there you might as well clean the keyboard pad contacts and landing zone for the pads. I just used some alcohol and qtips. (I don't remember this, but I think you need to remove the springs and totally disassemble the keyboard (you end up with a pile of keys, pay attention on reassembly...)to clean the contacts... such vague memories...) >remove board with battery on it. I think this has a bunch of plastic stand offs that you have to squeeze... turn the board over, pull the old battery after heating up the solder contacts with a hot soldering iron. Remove. Install new bat. reassmble. Send the old sysex back to the beast. Rock out! If you have the keyboard calibration error you can fix it while you have it apart. Check the file section. There is my 2 cents. It probably takes an hour (uninterrupted), if you have all your tools and supplies ready to do it all. Cheaper than sending it in for sure. Like the other reply said - if you can solder a plug or a cord you can do this. --- In Ensoniq-VFX-SD@yahoogroups.com, "Jon Carroll" <joncarroll@...> wrote: > > i don't feel like soldering on my VFX and many places don't want to touch > it. > > ----- Original Message ----- > From: "Gordon JC Pearce MM3YEQ" <gordon@...> > To: <Ensoniq-VFX-SD@yahoogroups.com> > Sent: Monday, January 12, 2009 9:05 AM > Subject: Re: [Ensoniq-VFX-SD] VFX repairs? > > > > On Mon, 2009-01-12 at 03:22 -0800, Jon Carroll wrote: > >> I live in L.A. and my VFX needs battery replacement and the keys cleaned. > >> Anywhere local that's still in business? > > > > Anyone can do the battery replacement.
