Projected Battery Life

Projected Battery Life

2005-01-01 by teko_band2000

Been out of touch for a while. Got a new ISP a while back and had a
lot of trouble trying to get that squared away with the Yahoo
Groups. Anyway had to un-join so I could re-join. Good to be back.

Okay....According to both the VFX-SD and the SD-1 manuals the
battery contained in the unit is projected to last some five years.
I purchased my VFX-SD in May of 1989 and my SD-1 in April of 1991.
Well just like the Energizer Bunny, it seems they just keep going,
and going, and going!

Have I been extremely lucky or do the batteries, in general,
actually last a long time, contrary to what the user manuals states?

Although it is my understanding that power is only drawn from the
batteries when the unit is in a static state, is there indeed
something else that can cause additional drain on the battery?

Ha....Now that I have asked the question, they will both probably
croak on me before the day is out!!

VFX batteries last a long time. I'd only worry if one wouldn't stay alive
less than 5 years. Anyway the VFX will let you know with a display message
when the battery's running out and you'll still have plenty of time to
change it then...

two SD-1's here and they're both still on the original
batteries. Same with the SQR+. MY WSSR battery died
years ago, so I wonder if its due to an particularly
effecient Ensoniq design Cheers, Keith

[Ensoniq-VFX-SD] Projected Battery Life/sequencer

2005-01-02 by Jay Barnes

I was just yesterday wondering the same thing.
Usually original batteries in electronics are longer
lasting than replacement batteries. In particular
items like watches. I was thinking about changing
mine but I think I'll wait. I've got a bigger
problem. My sequencer went down. Of course my
sequences are apparently lost too. Anyone have any
idea if there is a download somewhere to reload the
sequencer? That's the one disc I don't have.
Naturally!

Jay,
I agree with Han's advice here. If it ain't broke - don't fix it.
With regard to your sequencer problem, you may want to generate a new subject and email about your problem so that it doesn't get lost because it is under some other subject matter.
Make sure you include as much info as you can about your VFX or SD1 including the sequencer version you need - if you know it. And yes.....if you didn't have your sequences backed up then you will have lost them.

Jay,
to solve your sequencer problem, look at
You'll find the 4.10 and the 3.00 there as well as the free version of Giebler's EDE.
For the version 2.10 choose VFX as product (they obviously
mean the VFX SD when they refer to VFX since the VFX doesn't have a
sequencer).
For a VFX-SD the 2.10 is the latest version.
For the SD1 version 4.10 should work. This depends on your firmware version
which should also be 4.10. If it is below 4.10
To find out what firmware version (ROM) you have press PRESET+MASTER
Software, ROM, and KPC (keyboard frimware, not relevant here) will be indicated.
However, EDE cannot be used easily with current Windows systems. I've dealt
with this in an earlier thread. Have a look at msg nr 1322 in the boards archive:
Let me know if this helps.

Hans,
You've given me hope. I let you know how it works
out. Unfortunately I'll have to wait until I can get
online with a PC. I'm on my Mac at home right now.
Thanks.
