Hello, I have a sd1-32voice synth that seems to be very noisy in recording situations. Seems to be noise particles after the sound. Is this a common finding? Is there a fix? Any help would be useful. Thanks, scott

re the noise from an SD-1. I don't know if this advice has been offered on this group or not, but here's a MAJOR issue with the whole VFX/SD family. If you want the best signal to noise ratio out of the beast, the keyboard master volume slider needs to be up FULL. It is NOT a volume control (or attenuator) it is a digital controller of the dynamic range of the final output stage DAC, so there-fore, if you have the volume control set to 75%, you get HALF the signal to noise ratio the beast is capable of. - be careful of that one. but having told everyone that then you'll all get a better sound out of them and nobody will want to sell me theirs. Bugger. Ignore everything I just said. cheers Roger (soundthinker)

VFX/SD-1 Noise? Oh, man! You got that right. Have 6-VFX-SD/SD- 1's. For years that noise bothered me. Kept slider wide open as you suggest. Another ear nuisance did NOT occur to me until mid-1990's. While (pulling an all-niter) writing one of hundreds of sequences, occurred to me Ensoniq's factory ROM Strings, Organ, Brass, etc -and- many 3rd- party sounds were Pitch-Flat. Guessing because they were written in Master Pitch of 440Hz. Spent hours going through every patch, preset, etc. Slightly tuned the 2nd, 3rd, etc. oscillator's up 2-10 cents each. Next, compared tempered pitches to other piano/organ patches-whatever, then saved them. Man, what a difference! Anyone else notice that *flat-pitch sound* in Ensoniq factory patches? --- In Ensoniq-VFX-SD@yahoogroups.com, Roger Campbell <roger17@...> wrote: > > re the noise from an SD-1. > > I don't know if this advice has been offered on this group or not, but > here's a MAJOR issue with the whole VFX/SD family.
