Blank screen on VFX

Blank screen on VFX

2010-06-13 by javajenius

Hello everyone,

I'm hoping someone might have a suggestion about a problem I'm having with my VFX. For several weeks at power-up it's been showing the message about the low battery. I've bought a new battery on eBay and have made arrangements to get the battery replaced by someone who is competent in these things. In the meantime I've been continuing to use the VFX by pressing "continue" at the battery warning. Up until now this has worked (I understand that any settings I make will be lost when I turn the power off). Today when I switched on the power, the screen remained completely blank; no battery warning, system errors, or anything. I've verified that power is indeed connected (and I can hear the usual faint hum from inside the unit when the power switch is on). I've tried the trick of cycling power seven times to no avail; still just a blank screen. I'm hoping this is just an indication that the battery is now complete drained and once I get it replaced all will be well again. Can anyone confirm that a blank screen is, in fact, a symptom of a completely drained battery, or is there likely something more serious going on here?

Thanks in advance for any help.

Tim

...could this have been caused by overheating problems?!

anyway, let us know when you'll have the battery replaced, and consider putting a fan on the heatsink anyway...

this has been discussed much in the past, so just look in older topics...

good luck with your VFX!

Try pressing any of the buttons... If letters pop up then you know the screen is good. If letters do pop up most likely your motherboard is bad. Same thing happened to me on my VFX. The battery isn't causing any screen problems, don't waste time replacing it. I bought a working vfx motherboard from thesoniq in CA. Really nice guy. I sent him the old one and 110 dollars and he send me a working motherboard. Might be more for a VFX-SD board. Google thesoniq and you'll find him. It's very easy to replace the motherboard yourself.
