SD-1 effects glitches

SD-1 effects glitches

2013-08-12 by cltyacct

Hi folks,

I am new to this group and this is my first post. I just got my membership activated recently, but have not had a chance to dig in until now.

For some reason the navigation menu only includes "Home", then "Post" indented below it, then a bunch of other options. Other Yahoo groups I am a member of tend to include some way to browse and search the messages, so I apologize that I am currently unable to search them.

I got a SD-1 last December. As far as I know it has the latest OS version (4.10?). I've noticed two oddities with it:

1. When switching patches, the unit tends to "freak out". It "seems" like it is the effects processors that are going haywire. Is this a common issue?

2. There is a ROM patch (I think), called "Organizer", that seems to have major problems, with 100% repeatability. It seems (again) like the effects for this patch have some kind of glitch - the patch goes haywire with some slow, pulsating sound (at about 0.5hz) and often just makes a lot of noise etc. Other patches seem not to have this problem, save for some other "organ"-type sounds, which makes me think that one of the effect algorithms, common to the organ sounds, has some kind of glitch.

Thanks for any advice,
Chuck

I don't think it's your fault; I also can't seem to browse messages from the web interface. Mr Moderator, could you fix that please? Otherwise this forum is a lot less useful than it could, and really should, be!

That should be the latest ROMs, yes.

I've encountered similar things, on occasion, though not as repeatably as you seem to. Alas :/

One thing that I can think of is to leave the keyboard silent for a reasonable about of time before switching to the affected patch(es), so that any old data accumulated in the delay line memory used by the ESP (Ensoniq Signal Processor) chip can be overwritten with 0s, and thus not 'leak' into what you are playing later with the affected patch & effect program.

Sorry I can't be of more help,

Hi Chuck!

1:
If You change sounds very quickly, the fx can go crazy, yes. Especially if You are playing at the same time.

2:
I'm not sure if that's the tremolo and distortion fx You just described, or does it happen without playing any keys? In the latter case, a reseating of the (socketed) chips inside the SD-1, can sometimes do wonders.

Best,
Claus
