> Just out of curiosity, and apart from the obvious reason to defraud someone of > money, why would you put up a fake fairlight auction? Well *I* wouldn't. But there's a theory I have: Many people involved in criminal activities or fraud are not extremely bright. After all, if they were more intelligent they either wouldn't do it at all or do it in a less obvious manner. On the other hand... > This sorta cash, wouldn't anyone first check it out thoroughly? You'd be surprised how many people get dollar signs in their eyes when confronted with the possibility of a "deal". You just need to read the eBay support forums for stories like this one: Notebooks offered by someone who is a fresh member, money only up front. I'd say at least once each day. The phony Fairlight auctions are only about once or twice a month so far, but I guess we have witnessed about 8 or more in the last few months. There's one thing about them - they are always waaaayyyyy cheaper then the usual market rate. Apparently this can make people blind. On the other hand an item like a Fairlight usually invites a closer inspection than a run-of-the-mill notebook. I'm pretty certain this is the same guy who tried this already a couple of times. Doesn't look too smart to me. He's on my watch list and I'm sure he won't last on eBay for long. > I've been checking here and there on ebay so as to one day, I might purchase a > CMI. Not that I am interested in this one, but can anyone tell me what the > Fairlight FAME is? It's a digital mixing console ca. 1999 or so. Integrates nicely with the MFX3+ but doesn't have the slightest to do with the CMI. Unfortunately it seems I lost my Fame product brochure when I had a hard drive failure a couple of years ago.
