Ensoniq, Kurzweil, Sequential, and most other smaller manufacturers were left with little choice because they did not have the capital necessary to finalize R&D and work out all the bugs before marketing the product. It sucked for those of us who spent thousands of dollars on their products only to buy a headache, but in the end it was often remedied. My EII+ and EIII had serious issues, mostly software related, but eventually they were fixed and I was happy with the instruments.
