Adding to wild assumptions: what's your streamers default block (bytes per logical sector) size? Because, while old streamers had hardwired 512-bytes or 2048-bytes  blocksize, later could autoswitch between 512, 1024, 2048- with some "default" blocksize set with jumpers (and yes, it was likewise with old CD burners).
