Many thanks, The IIx had two additional drives "sandwiched" between the 8" drives. Detailed operation escapes me; this has been roughly ten years ago. I believe if a floppy was present in the target 3.5 drive it was used; if not the 8" drive had priority (this is strictly from memory). The mod itself worked very well; copying and working with the 3.5 floppies worked like a charm and everything was very quiet. I don't recall which way the floppies were formatted but I believe it was not a standard 1.44 MByte format. The modification consisted of the floppies and an additional board with various chips on it; but the chip labels were scratched off or painted over (can't remember) for obvious reasons.
