Re: [Fairlight-CMI] Re: Lightpen for IIx?

2006-01-28 by Tony Wride

Hi Dave,
I am doing the repairs myself on the lightpen due to the fact that for the past 35 years electronics has been a hobby of mine! When I got my system 14 years ago it was working but the lightpen was in bits with no wires attached to it. For the past 10 years my system has stood idle and I am now trying to bring it back to life.
I have rebuilt the lightpen and got the hit part working well but am awaiting an IC for the touch section. The inside of a lightpen contains very little, just a couple of ICs, but it is a fiddly job needing a magnifying glass and a steady hand. If it's of any help I would be willing to have a look at your pen and repair it for you if you would help me by testing a couple of cards. The computer part of my system is working fine but the voice part isn't and I suspect one of the ROMs on the Master Card. What I need to do is prove that at least one of my voice cards is working or even better try a different Master Card.
By your email address I presume you are somewhere in the UK. I work in Luton and have a house in Chesterfield. Hopefully we can help each other out.
Regards,
Tony

Tony,

Funny enough it looks like mine has the touch part working, but the
hit is not firing. I disconnected it, twiddled the wires and
reconnected it firmly and it worked for about 30 seconds, but now is
the same. So I am assuming that it isn't critically broken, but I do
like the idea of being about to replace it ( and the monitor ) and
only use the 'real' one for special occasions... ;)

Are you repairing yours yourself or do you know a convenient tech who
can do this? If it's just bad connections then I have a mate could
help me circuit trace and fix it. I haven't pushed too hard on this
as I'm still finding my way without a manuel.

Cheers

Dave

isn't. Do you know what's wrong with yours because if you still have
all the bits it may be repairable. If I can help let me know.
