Hello Laurence , 

Waow ; I sincerely admire your determination to copy an all CMI  
bank .
I wouldn't do it just because of the time it takes ...
But if you feel the courage ,  why not...

I think there's a big difference in using some samples instead of 
being the lucky owner of an original CMI unit...& that's why 
probably I got one ... 
But having a sample is better than having nothing ...& less costly...
If only I could have been happy with only samples ...

You're right , the maintenance aspect is making it worthwhile !!!

& all depends anyway of how you're using your CMI, through what 
sound mixer ...if it's to record just for the pleasure of having one 
directly in one of our affordable audiosequencer ...well ... ; 
having some samples should suffice ...
after if you're using a real mixer with some real preamps & all the 
artillery behind (not a mackie or a berhinger !!!), then you should 
notice that the IIx is giving so much more ...
So speaking about all that is so much subjective ... 

I don't know yet about the EMU II, but it surely sounds very nice 
too ...
I presume they don't have the same qualities anyway ...but they play 
on the same ground !
the fact is I'd like to check one EMULATOR II soon...

A very nice grainy sound anyway !!!...

So Good Luck for all these fture hours of sampling ...
just tell us how it goes & if it's as good as expected !
