Re: Pro Rec Sample Disc-anyone want to sell theirs?

2007-01-17 by dvdborn

Almost ten years ago I bought the Heavenly Music Fairlight CD-ROM.

I guess it's the same as the Pro Rec Sample Disc. But instead all the samples are present in
Wave format and in SF2 format.

IMHO, it might have been better if they didn't record the samples with the anti aliasing
filter on. The samples sound quite 'muddy'. Not the sound I'm used to hear from other CMI
IIx sources.

What follows is the read me file from the CD-ROM, including a list of the samples.

Best,
David

HMSBK Vol.2 The FAIRLIGHT SoundFont Collection
----------------------------------------------
Produced by Jose' Ortiz for Heavenly Music.

The Fairlight seems to have made it's first appearance around 1979. The series
II was launched in 1984 and only 300 or so of the series IIx's were built. Now,
they are heard on countless recordings of that period. The sound library
presented here for the first time ever in SF (SoundFont) format is the largest
known collection of Fairlight samples to date.

Here is a collection of the Fairlight's 30 disks PLUS some extra disks normally
found alongside the original library. 69 SF2 files Made from approximately 532
WAV Files have all been digitally level matched and normalized to maintain some
uniformity. Also included on this CD for your convenience are the WAV files used
in the SF2 files plus a 'dba' catalogue file for Steinberg's WaveLab Sample
Editor.

Some of the sounds have been left 'as is' though in most instances, liberties
have been taken with small doses of reverb and/or chorus to 'smooth' them out.
This has been done as many of the original samples actually did not loop very
well. This remianed the case when converting them to SF2. They are best played
lower down on a keyboard.

Enjoy!

N.B. While auditioning the files, you may find that your hardware reports an
'OUT OF DRAM' message. Open the AWE Control Panel and select the SYNTH TAB. In
the SYNTHESIZER SECTION, go to the AVAILABLE SYNTH and select GENERAL MIDI and
click on APPLY. This should clear the ROM and make the memory available again.

* Note : Please read all documentation on disk regarding the use of SoundBanks
and MIDI Bank Select Controllers.
