Hi Brian,

The maker you are referring to is the media descriptor byte, if the
drive is not recognized as a windows / dos type disk, based on the
media indicator, ghost would like to 'rectify' this for you. I recall
it only does this if you want to make a file-by-file image. If you do
a sector copy, it should leave the drive as-is.

If you have an old harddrive handy, you could install linux or another
operating system on it and then do a ghost to check it out. I only
have dos disks here and too little time to test it. However, I used
ghost last week and I was given the option to do a sector copy on an
NT disk that had booted improperly before.

I can very well imagine you don't want to experiment on a Fairlight
disk though.

Regards,
Harald
