Hi all

2003-10-17 by Colin Ross

Hi all
Some news on the 2004 meeting.
Sound On Sound are getting interested in running a piece for their
mag at the meeting. The 2004 is starting to hot up with the
conformation of Andy Richards. Andy Richards was and still is a big
Fairlight Fan. He said "I would be delighted to chat about my
Fairlight experiences in the 80's and 90's to the forum." He worked
and produced the following, this was taken from his web site:

READ ON AFTER ANDY'S CV AS THERE IS MORE ABOUT 2004 MEETING!!!!!!

In 1983, I produced an album for an independent record label in
Stoke-on-Trent, UK and it was mixed by Julian Mendelsohn, the house
engineer at Sarm East. Later that year, Trevor Horn, looking for a
new keyboard player / programmer to work with, asked Julian if he
could recommend anyone. Julian suggested that Trevor give me a
ring ......

During that period and on, I worked with Trevor and Stephen Lipson
on the following projects:

FRANKIE GOES TO HOLLYWOOD 'Relax', 'Two Tribes' & both their albums
PROPAGANDA singles and the album, 'A Secret Wish'
GRACE JONES 'Slave To The Rhythm'
GODLEY & CREME 'Cry'

Over the next few years, as a keyboard player and programmer, I
worked with many producers including Peter Collins, Mutt Lange,
Giorgio Moroder and Arif Mardin and with artists including:

THE PET SHOP BOYS 'It's A Sin', 'Heart', 'Always on My Mind' and the
album, 'Actually'

the British Movie, working with Polish composer Stanisalas Syrewicz

Over the years, I've moved from Keyboard Playing and Programming
into Record Production and along the way have scored jingles both
for Electronic Instruments and Orchestra. During my career, the
artists that I've produced include:

signed to Arcade Records in Germany. What a voice!

As you can see Andy has worked with the best and I'm looking forward
to see him at the meeting.

There has been discussions that the meeting sould be just after or
just before the Frankfort Show so that the guys from the USA/
Canada / Australia can attend. This to me sounds great ....tell me
what you all think.

A NEW DATABASE WILL BE PUT ON THE FORUM FOR MEMBERS ATTENDING GREGS
MEETING IF NOT AROUND FRANKFORT.....READ ON

The possibility of a link if not around Frankfort will be costly and
this makes the members fee more costly for the day which I trying to
keep to a minimum. This is what I feel is fair. The UK will hire the
projector (if a member going to the UK venue has one please let me
know)and I'll supply the computer(laptop)if someone has a webcam
please let me know also. Greg and his guests fund the cost of the
connection between the two venues and any aditional costs due to
that connection. I will have to look for a venue with broadband and
ask them for a deal. I feel that it's a good idea of the link up
it's just the cost that concerns me.
I will be asking for all members to help in any way they can. I'll
be doing things in the next couple of months with the forum to fund
raise to keep the cost of the UK venue down. If it goes to plan the
fee for the day will not be very much each I promise. I am starting
3 new databases after conformation of venue, to keep all things
above board:

Donations or purchase fund raise from members attending UK: members
name beside it and total amount.

Donations or purchase fun raise from members other/outside UK:
members name beside it and total amount.

The day's Fee with the members name beside it attending UK.

This will start only when we have the :
Venue
Date
The right amount of members (30 minimum)attending the UK meeting.
PAYMENTS THROUGH PAYPAL OR TRANSFER. UK MEMBERS PAYPAL CHEQUE + PO
ALSO

I will be putting my hand in my pocket to make this day
unforgettable. We (The Forum)are waiting for a few more Special
guests to confirm that they will attend. They will be attending free
and we will be paying for their meal(s)which I feel is fair. Things
that will make up for it is that each member that attends will have
free access to a large library of samples for both Series II and
Series III. Each member will also receive a CD Rom full of their
instruments documentations and some goodies. Some never seen before
since the 80's. A day you will never forget. Non Fairlight users
will get some extra goodies. Any monies left over will be used for
the bar that night. There will be loads of demos, chats, gifts and
FUN.....
HOPEFULLY I WILL BE ADDING SOME MORE SPECIAL GUEST SOON.
Please let me know what your thoughts are.
Best and kind regards
Colin
PS GREG PLEASE COME BACK TO ME WITH YOUR VIEWS. I HOPE THIS IS A
GOOD COMPROMISE.
