Some more problems on my IIx beauty

2012-03-06 by Roland

Hi Harald and all,

thanks for the reply about the battery ! That was the solution.

But there are still two other problems with my IIx machine :-( and I
could need some more advice....maybe you can help:

After re-seating the CPU card after the battery removal the CMI was
working again. Not properly, but at least the same way as it "worked"
before I performed the battery removal. Here's a description of what
it did:

When I switched it on, the CMI presented its "loading system"
message, but froze shortly before displaying the Index page. It
couldn't reach the Index page.

I thought it might have something to do with connecting problems of
the cards in the slots after 28 years, so today I had all the cards
removed from the slots, cleaned the connectors of the cards and put
them back into the mainframe. Success ! At least sort of...

Now the machine boots again, but doesn't show or find any Voice cards
any more. Just if they are not in the machine. But they are.

Did I miss something somewhere ??

The second problem is, and I had it before in the past:
Sometimes I can play around with it for ages, and it seems to work.
But then suddenly it freezes. Sometimes very quickly after booting.
Sometimes after a much longer time.
What could this be ? Still dirty slots ? --> Connecting problems ?
Faulty/partly broken cables somewhere ?

Did anyone had this problem before ? Any ideas ?

What I also noticed is that I cannot reset it any more from the reset
button on the mainframe panel. It used to work perfectly in the past.
Does that give any hint for the problem(s) ?

To summerize the two problems:

(1) Why are the voice cards not recognized by the system any more
after I had them out of the machine for some minutes ?

(2) Why does it sometimes freeze ?

Thanks a lot or any help in advance
