It's not Lithium Ion, they're rechargeable and need very careful care 
and feeding.

Lithium batteries have a shelf life just about as long as their service 
life, about ten years.

If you find a piece of old kit with a NiCad in it, you can drop a NiMH 
straight in with no further modifications.
