yes well that's what I was thinking, Im trying to slave the machine from my midi sequencer (akai ASQ 10) and it does have smpte out. I guess Ill just try it and see. so what you are saying is it will sync but it won't receive a start signal from my sequencer if I have to restart it?

In the old days, we "striped" (recorded) code on track 24 on the 2" tape, (which the IIX can generate). Then you just set up the RS page to chase sync SMPTE. For younger persons reading, the "chase" allowed you to drop in anywhere in the song, and within a few milliseconds the CMI would know where it was. Previous to this, you had to run from the top of the song everytime - even if you were working on the 4 outro bars!

Coming back to this topic a bit late. Massive
amounts of work and a computer crash to boot....
Syncing to a SMPTE-track will only work properly
when you use the CMI as the masterclock for everything else. Just splitting the
SMPTE-track into both the CMI and ASQ will introduce slight jitter and
possible drift as you go further into track. The best way is to use an
intelligent Masterclock with CUE/drop-in options.
SMPTE-track > Masterclock SMPTE
IN
Masterclock 384ppq out > CMI Clock input
This will not allow you to work in Song Mode as the
CMI will not chase to the correct position. Instead you need to be in Pattern
mode and set the Masterclock to start at the measure of your
choice.
Since you´re not into using a computer/DAW there
isn´t much options. If you go the DAW-route, I would suggest that you look into
the Innerclock Systems Sync-Gen II Pro for a stable clock solution.
I use the Friendchip SRC´s to convert DIN-sync from
the SYNC-Gen to 384 PPQ. I also have a Masterbeat but will possibly sell
it.
