Re: Series III for sale - Question :-)

2012-06-13 by ataritt

I've got 808 samples on my series 3, and i think it's library stuff.
I don't think a fairlight excells in replicating 808 sounds, but the quality shines through sampled acoustic sounds, like percussion, where transients are crucial for a hifi sound.

A lot of the factory sounds are of smashing quality, nowhere flashy, but in a mix very present and musically interesting.

Most of these sounds sound like a million dollars to me.

A Akai S1100 machine samples 808 sounds nearly perfectly, but bass sounds, bass guitar specifically shine through the Fairlight like no other machine.

So generally, wide spectrum audio is tailor cut for fairlight, dynamic representation of fairlight is somehow better analog sounding then all other machines i've used in the last 30 years.

I'm going to build my own library soon, and report on that effort later.

An impressive machine that will be in my studio for the next 30 years.

As for the reason for selling the Series III, I am just not using it - although I have looked in to restoring it (in which case I might use it again). Peter Weilk has been very helpful, and he seems to believe that it would not take much to get it running again (starting with just getting a new drive, which he could easily supply). If the current auction does not yield a happy buyer, I will probably proceed with Peter's suggestions.Let me know if you have any other questions.Regards,Todd

Elsewhere I got the impression that this might be a near miss (and therefore, the program a little bit over-enthusiastic). Do you happen to know?
