Well, I'm not JB, but I can confirm that not every
SCSI/IDE bridge will work. In 2010 I did a
lot of testing with an EIII-rack. There is a difference between brands and even
in firmware. So the task is to find the cheapest, working
ones.
As for the 4 GB IDE Flash Module, I used a different, much cheaper
method. Get a Compact Flash CF \u2192 40 Pin IDE Adapter for a few dollars.
(aprox 3$) and get a CF card.
CF: http://www.ebay.de/sch/i.html?_nkw=Cf+Card+4+gb&_sacat=0&_odkw=Cf+Card+Reader&_osacat=0&_from=R40
This works fantastic. I can backup on my PC with a
RAW image and I don't have to format and spend 4 hours of (not always
succesfull) verification on the EIII. There is however ONE issue: When writing
back a RAW image, make sure the CF has the right amount of space.
I had a lot of 1 GB cards from Kingston, the ones
with a flower on the label. These were recommended by others. Turned out, there
are at least 3 versions which each have their own, different size of memory
available. The ones with the smallest amount of memory did not work at
all.
When writing back an image, you can only write back
on the same or larger size CF!! Best way is to name the image and include
the size of bytes in the name. These cards all say "1 GB" and at first
glance they seem te same, but they are not. The ones that worked for
me had 961 MB and 976 MB. There were also versions with less than 961 MB.
Those didn't work with the EIII. There are serial numbers etc, to identify
them.
On more modern gear, like various Kurzweil series
2XXX, Ensoniq ASR-10 and EMU E5000 Ultra it seems that adapters etc. mostly work
fine. It's only older gear that seems to give some problems.
Hope this helps,
Cheers,
Peter Kersten.

Hi JB. Did you try this SCSI/IDE bridge?? I've bought several different ones
and not everyone works. Regards, PW
