Re: [Fairlight-CMI] Looking for a sound

mmm, thanks rob.

Gives me a good place to start. I did a search through the IIx library and couldn't find it, so I suppose it must be I or II.
I've had a go at reproducing it without much luck so far :)

Off the top of my head, it's a sample called WHTNOIS, and is, essentially, a pitched white noise sample. I'm not sure if it was a factory library sample or something that came after. There are many variations on the factory library and some samples appeared briefly on some disks and not on others.

I know this sound mainly due to my obsession with Dolby :-)

But yes, WHTNOIS. I'm sure that's what it is called. Peter Vogel gave me some lists of library sounds so I'll dig through them.

Come to think of it, it may have been a CMI Series I or II sample, as opposed to the IIx (I only have the IIx and III libraries and data here). Given the fact that the New Musik tracks you refer to were recorded in 1980, and TD's One Of Our Submarines was recorded circa '82, they preceded the IIx somewhat.

I know for a fact that this sample appears on the Bitley Fairlight Platinum ReFill for Propellerhead Reason. I know that Patrick sampled a IIx, but the chances are he may have had access to a II or I library. Patrick has also started converting this library into Kontakt, but I can't recall if this sample is on there.

Don't know how much help that has been but hope it has somehow.

Rob.
