O/T - SCSI HD in Akai S5000 problems - Help!

2004-10-04 by Peter

Hi guys,

Sorry for the off topic subject, but I'm in need of some help:

I recently bought an internal 4 gig SCSI HD for my Akai S5000,
installed it and it works beautifully UNTIL I plug in an external
SCSI CD-ROM + SCSI ZIP drive into one of the SCSI ports on the back
of the Akai. In this state, it takes longer to boot up, won't
display there are any EXTERNAL devices, but will display the
INTERNAL SCSI HD as an unkown device although I can't access it.

As far as I can see, there are no ID conflicts and there are no
termination problems (ie no terminator jumper on the INTERNAL HD,
ZIP termination is set to off but I do have a terminator on the last
device in the chain (CD-ROM). I've tried it without this too).

This is the setup:

Akai S5000: INT HD SCSI (ID=#1) --> EXT 100MB Zip (ID=#5) --> EXT CD-
ROM (ID=#6 + Terminator plug)

It could be a SCSI cable problem, but I'm 99.999% these were the
ones working recently with my S3000XL at work.

Any ideas?

Cheers,
Peter

ps All devices are compatile devices.
