Hi Guys, I have a Fairlight series 3 rev 11.40 CMI and the current formatting limit for the hard disk is 4095 megabytes. Would it be possible to update the software to format say 9-18 gigabytes of hard disk space? I thought the more technically minded out there might have an opinion on this one ! This limitation looks like a 32bits limit to me. Working
around such limit is not straight forward... But someone
may have the solution. Is this limit still there on the Mfx3 ?

Hi all... I think the 4GB limit it's FAT Microware OS-9 limit. how byte use in FAT adress mode, for each Inode ? in OS-9000 (Later version of OS-9) limit is up of 4GB ! but OS-9000 is disk formats incompatible with native OS-9. Historically, OS-9 as far back as 1977... Very old system... now 4GB is very small :) no simple to adapter OS-9 (Old) with new large FAT OS-9... it is possible to create more "partition table" ??? Hi,
The whole OS-9 filesystem (RBF) is based on 24-bit addresses for OS-9
sectors (256 bytes). One could implement a JKERNEL SCSI-driver
extension (for the wavesuper) in order to "fake" multiple 4GB drives
from one large drive >>4GB, though.
As far as I know, MFX3 supported a new filesystem ("FLFS") for
partitions with up to 200GB.
I use a SCSI DVD-ROM drive with my MFX2 system (Rev11+). A regular
DVD-R can hold a complete 4GB OS-9 partition. Such a configuration is
very flexible: one system drive, one 4GB work drive, and one DVD-
drive for libraries etc.
