Hi Laurent
My adapter is: Iomega Jaz jet ultra pci ver.2.7
My drive is: Fujitsu M2263SA, Part no: B03B-4945-B613A#NB.
On my computer I can format the HD and transfer windows files back and forth without any problems.
Laurent, what will you do if/when your drives quits? Are you on OS6.03 too?
In my case, my CMI III is dead if my internal HD quits and that is what I'm trying to avoid by struggeling to make backups. But it doesn't go to well at the moment :-|
If anyone has anything to add concerning how to format an external HD with a CMI III OS6.03 I'm all ears.
Best regards
Brian

Hi Brian,

I'm sorry I don't have the utils to format HDs with my rev6.03 ...

However, I'm surprised you're able to use these HD with a
computer... I tryed to connect mine (Maxtor XT1140) to
my computers and had some SCSI bus errors... What models
do you have ? Which model of Adaptec converter board do
you use ?

Best regards.

Laurent.

Hi Brian,

Are you sure you have a rev6.03 series 3 ? The HD you have are true
SCSI HD
and it was my understanding that rev6.03 only accept ST-506 or ESDI
disks
with an Adaptec converter to interface them with the CMI-777
pseudo-SCSI format.

Maybe Peter Vogel could give us some infos on that topic ?

The Series 3 I bought was delivered with three XT1140 HDs, all three
working
and formatted as systems HD for the Fairlight (with three /k
partitions)... And my
floppy drive and tape streamer are working fine, so I have OS backup on
floppies
and sound library on tapes...

In your situation, I would buy a new 8" Floppy drive first. Even though
someone
has the utils to format your HD, you'll need a working floppy drive to
do this
process. It would also allow you to backup your /K partitions ! It
would be my
number one priority for sure !!!

Hope it helps.

     Laurent.

Re: Tapes/HD's

2005-03-23 by brian_ronn

Hi Laurent,

On bootup I read generel release 6.03 on the screen and the previous
owner have stated too that it is a rev 6.03 machine.

On the back of the mainframe there is a centronic 50-pin scsi
connector and my external HD case have the same connector. My
existing external Fujitsu drive is working flawlessly so far.

I've been promissed a second 8" floppy drive (the current one gives
my error codes all the time).

I'm a bit concerned that the CMI III rev6.03 doesn't have the
software to format a HD. There must be some kind of alternative way
to format and partitioning a HD to use in the CMI.

Best regards

Brian
