Pro Rec Digital Domain CD Fairlight CMI and soundfonts?

Pro Rec Digital Domain CD Fairlight CMI and soundfonts?

2006-02-03 by ozidudeau

I am contemplating buying the Pro Rec Fairlight CMI Digital Domain
sample CD, to use it to make soundfonts.
Are the sounds of good quality to make soundfonts? Can they be looped?

Any advice greatly appreciated.

Cheers
Antony

The Cd is OK, not great but OK. I have the CD and two
series IIx's. The samples will pass in a mix but it
would best be served to sample them to a ensoniq
mirage or other 8 bit sampler. Alot of what appeares
to be lost in sampling a IIx is the fact that the real
IIx has bad sample loop points. These sample loop
points are definately audiable on the IIx, When most
people sample the IIx they make the loops very smooth
and this is not how the IIx sounds. I have found that
if I take my mirage and place the sample from the CD
on it with a short sample rate and only one sample
point it sounds more realistic.

It's a quicktime stream so you won't be able to save it. And it is indeed encoded as h264.

For the moment I can't update my blog. But later today I will add a link so that everybody
can also download the clip, instead of stream it.

For those of you who can't wait. Here's the link to the downloadable file:

Hi Peter,
What version of Quicktime are you running? If you have PRO, try right clicking on movie and saving it locally...
Kind regards,
Peter

did you code it as h264?

Brilliant! Almost as good are the comments below the video!

One thought that ran though my head was how brave Peter was allowing someone to video tape him as he's sketching a demo. That's a very vulnerable spot. I can't imagine any current artist allowing that to happen these days.

Cheers,
Scott

I would like to point out that the Peter Gabriel link
is not mine it belongs to DVD born, another great
synth link. Another shout out needs to go to
matrixsynth blog both I check daily. Joseph and I have
worked extremely hard on collecting and keeping
vintage synth's available to the public with our
museum. www.keyboardmuseum.org: and these two blogs
are just two great individuals that are moving this
forum forward and I applaud them for there hard work
and sharing. I have a surprise for any IIx owners out
there that email me and tell me how to copy a sound
disk from the IIx to another sound disk. Trust me it
is well worth the postage and it starts with P and
ends in G! Thanks all for the forum.
