Hello CMI fans After 25 years as a senior developer of the CMI software (all versions) and later the MFX line of editors I thought I would pop my head in and say hello. Its about time. Any old friends or work collegues out there? [Steve Rance] http://www.fairlightus.com

Glenn If I understand your question correctly, after pressing (BLUE/+/-) just type in "mfxload" from an OS9 shell, (could be "mfxsend" if some really old software). Also, I think if you just start the MFX application, this will load up the MFX controller software too if the LCD says "Waiting for Software". There is no way to dump the contents of one controller into another. Regards [Steve] _____

Okay to throw a question your way? Though i could totally understand a personal memory purge after being engrossed in something for so long, cause i do that with about everything. On the chance:have a couple of mfx controllers that need the battery replaced (i presume) error coming up is "program in non-volatile ram is invalid, press blue-plus-minus to enter upload" so there's how to get the mfx that needs it to receive, but how to send? after changing the batteries, have one mfx that's good. is there a way/command to rig a controller to controller dump of the program? or advice on getting to from mainframe? sorry if this something that seems obvious/my hesitence to experiment is making it seem harder than it need be. Seems a pretty esoteric bit of knowledge and hoping you might still remember? In any case, thanks for all you've done. glenn fairlightusa <steve@fairlightus.com> wrote: Hello CMI fans After 25 years as a senior developer of the CMI software (all versions) and later the MFX line of editors I thought I would pop my head in and say hello. Hey Steve, I lurk here even though I sold my dear old girl (Series III)off a few years ago. I miss my instrument very much, and if I could have kept it reasonably serviced, I would have kept her forever. A big cosmic thanks to you, Kim, Peter, and Andrew (Dr. Bombay) for having created and maintained her for as long as you did. Peter Kaye

Hey Peter Kaye, long time !! I own your CMI Series III and she's in great shape. I'm a senior hardware design engineer at AMD, so I hope I can keep her ticking on for life. I also have a classic Emulator II so she's not alone. Hope all is well your way, are you still in the UK ? last we spoke ~2 yrs ago you were going there for a music PhD ? take care David Wilson --- In Fairlight-CMI@yahoogroups.com, "djangokitty2" <pdkaye@...> wrote: > > Hey Steve, I lurk here even though I sold my dear old girl (Series > III)off a few years ago. Yo Dave, I have always felt good about the home she went to. Knowing that you have the knowledge and experience to keep the girl as she should be has helped me with the parting. My worst fear was some day seeing her gutless frame on some scrap heap, cards scavenged for others. She was relatively early, which means cards and motherboard full of jumpers and mods, but the gold and platinum records she created still reside on the wall in my bathroom :-) I have often thought about what it must be like, for Kim, Peter and Steve, having created a tool that became so important to some of us. It was expensive, we demanded, even clamoured for more, better, more. But the Fairlight CMI creates a passion in the hearts of those ready for it, to others it is just a piece of kit. The Ph. D. drags on, as my interests swerved deeply off towards music cognition & perception. I recently bought a place in Paris, so now spend most of my time between Paris and LA., and London for those moments when the Uni feels they need to see me. I hope you are making some good music! Sampling tumbling tumbleweeds? Let me know, I'd love to hear her voice. Peter Kaye --- In Fairlight-CMI@yahoogroups.com, "David J. Wilson" <jeepcherokee_10@...> wrote:
