MFX3+ and Jaz problem

MFX3+ and Jaz problem

2007-07-10 by modularmoog

Hi Everyone -

I'm having a problem here and hopefully someone here knows the answer.

I've got my MFX3+ on my Kitchen table right now, because I'm trying to
figure out how to get a couple of things exported for use in Pro Tools.

I've got a 2 gig Jaz drive hooked up, but the cartridge that I'm using
is a 1 gig.

I've tried to format the drive both on my Mac (OSX 10.4) and on my PC
(XP) and it's just not working.

The Fairlight is seeing the drive, but I can't write anything to it.
Currently I've got it formatted on my PC as a FAT16 volume using the
Iomega tools.

The Fairlight is reporting it as 2048MB. I assume that this is likely
part of the problem. (The Fairlight is seeing a 2 gig drive and
assuming that I'm using 2 gig media?)

Also, I'm not really all that sure what the issue is with SCSI
termination. Should I be using an external terminator or just the Jaz'
on board termination?

Someone has to know the answers. Please help so I can get this thing
out of the kitchen before my wife kills me.

Thanks,

Tim

Hi,

do you test this disk with KMI software ?

Hi Tim.

I have an MFX3+, as well as a bunch of older MFXs and CMIs, and I've
never had much luck with Jaz drives. Do yourself (and wife) a favour
and just use an external SCSI hard drive. You can pick them up on Ebay
for a few dollars. When a Fairlight "sees" a drive, it's an extremely
low-level detection, on the lines of "there's a SCSI device ID2
attached", it says nothing about having the correct format.

Good luck!
