llx PCB's

llx PCB's

2010-11-05 by Howard Smith

Hi Guys

Newbie here -
Ok - this may sound like a silly question and I am sure it is...

I have my llx and just had a PCB repaired.
My question is how do you get the b***** back in?

I do not want to force it,but it really does not want to lock.
I have it the right way around and in the right slots.
It just will not lock in?

I tried to unlock and then re lock Q256 as this seemed to be the easiest one to see what was going on, and you guessed it - I can not get this one back in either...

I know I am being a Muppet - but having waited 25 years to play it, I really do not want to screw it up at this stage.

I am a very technical guy with my specialty in problem solving, but this has me stumped..

Dying to play it - so Any help or tricks would be wonderful...

Thank you
Howard

Hi WT

Thank you so much for the reply.

So basically - it sounds like I am not pushing hard enough?

Which part of the PCB do you push?
Do I push it on the black tabs or on the board its self?

THANK YOU for your help...
All the best
Howard

I had the same problem.

My guess is that it was a long time ago since the cards were removed.

Put on some heavy-duty gloves and with both thumbs, press that sucker in. It
helps if you have the mainframe positioned up against a wall or have a
friend to hold it so it doesn´t move.....

Hi Howard,

Yeah, it feels a bit scary pushing that hard.

Push on the card, not on the tabs.

Make sure the tabs are in the correct position ( i.e not open position )
when pressing the card in.

Aslo, check to see that nothing is blocking the card, cables, dead rat or
scorpion...

Which card was broken ? And what caused it ?

Re: [Fairlight-CMI] Re: llx PCB's

2010-11-06 by Harald Feldmann

Hi Howard,

It helps if you aternately apply pressure at the high end and the low end
so you dont have to get past the 'entrypoint' of all contacts at once.

I'd gently push on the board itself, without touching (bending) any of the
components. 'wiggling it' my help.

Harald

Re: [Fairlight-CMI] llx PCB's

Same here. I had a hard time getting cards back in. The tips given in previous messages did it for me too. Thumbs on PCB, not the levers. Wigling the card a bit. Also I used a nail file to round up the sharp corners from the small slot that alignes the PCB. (Do you guys call that the "key"?).
By the way, while you are at it: check battery! I prefer to remove it. (Done so years ago in my IIx).

Peter Kersten.
