Motorola EXORset

Motorola EXORset

2012-10-07 by dvdborn

According to this page the development of the Fairlight CMI is based on the Motorola Exorciser:
http://silicium.org/site/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=115:motorola-exorset-165&catid=13:us&Itemid=29

Luck wants that I was given a Motorola EXORset for free. A later version of the Exorciser.
The machine still powers up, but I'm stuck at the boot prompt.

I've got no experience with this machine. But since it's also based on the 6809 I was wondering if there is any use for it with a IIx.
Perhaps some components inside of it that are compatible with the IIx.

It would be great if the 5 1/4" drives could be used with the IIx (until there's an easy HxC solution).

Anyone have any experience with these machines?

Here are some pictures of it:

I don't know how correct the info on that page is.

But, it could be that they started using it for the development of the IIx.

I'd bet for Peter to clarify that, but I'd rather say they had a common root,
maybe a Motorola demonstration board, but I don't think they're related (considering
CMI I and II(x) are actually a SMP machines while this is clearly a single CPU computer).

We did use the EXORset in the very early days of 6800 development. It used
paper tape storage. pre floppies!

So, in other words, not much use for it today ?

So what was it used for? Component testing? Software development?

It was a software development system for assembling 6800 code (C etc had not
yet been invented, it was only assembler). You could single step and
breakpoint, that was about it.

It seems so. But it does look nice in the studio as an ornament. :-)
