SMTPE and IIx

So does the IIx with the General Interface Unit actually work with SMPTE? From reading the post here, it sounds like SMPTE input on the IIx Interface will trigger the sequencer to start, but then it runs free and doesn't actually sync with the SMTPE time code. What's the real story here? Thanks! Kirk
