Something silly MFX 3+

Something silly MFX 3+

2017-07-05 by andrei.kudryavtsev@gmail.com

Hi team,

I'm trying to run MFX3+ after few months sitting in a storage room. I previously had one which was running just great, but looks I'm missing something trivial here. So, here is a story, I'm booting 15.6.05 until to the last moment where it can't start "mdrwsmain" and fails everything after by the timeout.

MFX controller was updated fine.

SCSI is simplified - just one boot drive.

NVRAM erased, all parameters loaded by default except debug page, which I attached.

Tried another CPU board with PCI SCSI card attached, same thing.

This was working system, and wasn't abused or moved far.

Can't figure out where I should look next... Please, help.

Hi Andrei.

These are just two shots in the dark (as I would have to look up old notes to make it more reliable) - but:

1. Might your Dallas Chip (=RealTimeClock with RAM) Battery be dead? (Same possibility in the replacement CPU board of same age, naturally...)

Suitable replacement ICs are available through ebay from Asia. I remember very vaguely that this solved a similar startup problem on mine maybe a year ago; I may even have posted something about it in this group.

2. Have you tried reseating all the cards? (Power off before that... :-) )

Kind regards, Joerg
