Hi Jerry -

DON'T USE PLIERS!!! You will surely damage the caps...

The white caps are like decorative tops to the switch unit. It is the actual unit that you need access to, and to do this without damaging the switches, you need to go in to the keyboard and dismantle some housings which cover the switch area. There is quite a bit a work to do in order to get there. Sounds scary, but if you set aside a good amount of time and just relax - and go slow - you will do fine. Have you ever taken the bottom/back of the keyboard off before? Once you have this figured out, the rest should go well.

Do you already have the replacement lights? There were some posting on the Holmes Page with contacts for them, if needed.

Good luck - and resist the urge to use pliers!

I totally agree with Frank here - I recently replaced some lights
and found that removing the keyboard cover, removing the pitchwheel
controller assembly, and then unscrewing the housing from the
buttons was much less stressful than trying to go in "from the
outside". The bonus to this is that you'll get to clean out any junk
that's accumulated inside your keyboard over the years :-).

Happy new year!

Hi Jerry,

Hey Frank, its good to see you ! I hope all is well. Jerry its very easy to replace the lights. I have done this on my CMI 3 and CMI 11X and it took about 5 minutes! Firstly you need the right bulbs :

Fairlight music keyboard bulbs 11X and 111

RS Components rswww.com

RS stock number 564-469 Lamp filament T5 1/2 \u201316-5mm,24V

You simply use a small thin flathead screwdriver and gently pry the plastic caps off. There is no need at all to touch any of the switching assembly. Just gently pry up on one side then the other. Gently work your way around the cap and it will simply come off. You will then see the bulb inside. Use tweasers and grab the bulb around the silver body. The bulb will easily just come out. Put the new one in and then replace the cap. You will see how you need to place the cap back on. It lines up in a certain way as there are 2 tabs that slot in to a groove. I am not very technical and I managed to do it ok. Remember ,don\u2019t force anything ! Good luck!
